Seeing orange?

Are you already infected? I’m not. But I guess it won’t last long before we hit the streets dressed in orange and equipped with horns, flags, wigs, megaphone and don’t forget the infamous vuvuzela and all the weird other stuff. As long as it’s orange it’ll do. World Cups are a rare thing yet so damn cool. It’s when you hook up with friends, drink lots of beer and discuss every happening on the pitch. Even the stupidest detail.

It’s taking over society for a couple of weeks. People can’t function normal and everyone wants to know the latest scoop. I guess people will swag their newest iPhone app. In a way it’s kinda sad but we’re all participating in the frenzy. The media and brands have a big influence. Everyone wants a piece of the action. Personally I think it’s too big. Stick to the core (I don’t want to know who the Dutch WAGs are and what they’re doing). I mean, look at all the shitty merchandise brands want to shove them up our asses. ‘Buy my product and get this item for free’. Why would I, they all suck.

But the World Cup gets us dragged into it. Emotion is taking over the ratio and society is unbalanced for as long as the team participates in the tournament. And why? We never won the World Cup and probably never will. We’re always called ‘outsider’. You know, the one that plays attractive but never wins in the end. But we Dutchies are optimists so we all hope this one will be different as we always do, one to remember. The one where we celebrate our first World Cup! Hup Holland Hup!
