What a great event. But man it was cold. I was asked to shoot some photos during The Fashion Track.
The Fashion Track is organised to celebrate the re-opening of the street. It was a spectacular open air fashion show involving bright stationary trams in which the actual catwalk took place.

Shooting the mood and interior of a wine bar. Always a welcome assignment. Especially when it’s l’Ouest were talking about.
l’Ouest is a wine bar situated in the van Oldenbarneveltstraat in Rotterdam, one of the nicest streets of the city. This place has lots of characteristics which makes the shoot really fun to do. Owner Wester and chef Karim offer their guests hospitality and quality products. A perfect place to relax and hang out with friends.

One of the perks of our new home definitely is living 100m. from the park, the Kralingse Bos in Rotterdam. A great place to jog or simply walk through on sunny days.
Can’t wait till our home is finished and our little misses is around so we can enjoy the park more often. This time Len and I went for a short stroll. I caught Len in October showing off her growing belly.
These photos were shot with a Leica M3 camera with a 50mm Summicron lens and Ilford 400 film. I believe it was shot at f/8 1/1000 Scanned with an Epson Perfection V500 scanner.
Imagine you’re lost in a massive desert, hundreds of miles from civilisation, driving a car your granny would be embarrassed by. Then all of a sudden all your wheels fall off and the search for tools turns up a dirty sock and two dried apricots. That’s the Mongol Rally – 10,000 miles of pure adventure over mountains, deserts and some of the most remote terrain on the planet.
The Ratpack Foundation is going for it. Team Ratpack consisting of 5 guys from Rotterdam are up for the adventure of their lives and you can support them by donating. For every 2 euro one goes into petrol, the other one goes directly to KiKa (Dutch Children’s Cancer Foundation).
Here’s a post to support a local. Ron van der Ende is a sculptor living in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He is specialized in wall mounted bas-reliefs constructed from found wood. The original color and texture of the wood is utilized to form a gripping and realistic mosaic. The realism is further enhanced by the perspective built into the relief. Ron van der Ende uses his method to conjure up dark industrial and space age imagery.
His work is really mind blowing. Such great detail, so stunning.

Yeah! The Analog Photo Collective had it’s first meetup of this year. A big welcome to Erik Richters and Mario Sol who joined the APC meetup for the first time. Hope you enjoyed it.
This meetup was organized by Hanke. She picked the Rotterdam market and wanted us to capture the romance of this place where thousands stroll to buy fresh products and find bargains. Funny because we had the same program in mind for the 1st APC edition but that one got a bit wet.
Although we did shoot this time. I don’t think we really captured it’s romantic side. At least I didn’t managed to. The place is very photogenic but it’s so hard to capture those moments. The moment they are in front of you and the next they’re vanished. It’s a constant moving scene.
With Queensday in sight people start planning things to do that day. If you’re in Rotterdam you’ll probably end up at Oranjebitter. If you have tickets that is. The 2012 edition of Oranjebitter Rotterdam is announced and will be held on the 30th of April on the Parklaan In Rotterdam. Tickets are available at your local selling point Level, Picknick, SHPPR and No Boys Allowed.
Oranjebitter Rotterdam is a place to dance to the beats of local and national artists from the festival scene. You can also pimp your t-shirt, jump in a photo booth or participate in traditional Dutch games. Or grab a typical Rotterdam kapsalon at the Sticky Fingers Truck.

I recently developed a roll of film with a lot of different happenings on it. One of them was the Wereld van Witte de With Festival in Rotterdam. Here are a couple analog photos from that event.
These photos were taken with a Leica M3 camera, Summicron 50mm lens and Fuji Superia 800 film. the negatives were scanned with the Epson Perfection V500.

De Parade is a typical cultural annual event I’m looking out for year in year out. De Parade is a theater festival packed with surprising acts that visit Hollands biggest cities during summer.
De Parade starts in Rotterdam, followed by The Hague, Utrecht and finally Amsterdam. De Parade attracts nice people and is excellent for socialising. It the kind of place where you encounter all those people who seems to be vanished during the year. But when De Parade starts, they are there. A real gathering spot. I’m really looking forward to it.
The Rotterdam edition starts on the 16th of June and lasts till June 26th. Saturday the 18th will be a very nice day. When the Analog Photo Collective will have it’s 4th meetup which ends at De Parade. I guess I’ll be shooting some photos there.

Koninginnedag / Queensday 2011 was a delight. As always during my day started at the Hoogstraat where friends gather for a nice and cold beer and tastefull water pipe.
Oranjebitter was my next stop where joyfull people where partying their asses off. I took my Leica with me that day and shot some photos with a Lomography Redscale film while I was still able to. Some turned out very nice. See them in the full post.

Amsterdam is supposed to be the best place to celebrate Queensday (or as we say, Koninginnedag) on the 30th of April in Holland. Rotterdam is a great alternative ever since the Oranjebitter party is in town. Oranjebitter started 2 years ago as a rather intimate party organised by a couple local companies with great success.
This years Oranjebitter edition will be oraganized by even more companies and will be held at a bigger spot in the city, Laurenskerk Square next to the Laurenskerk and Heidegger.
The teaser is out and tickets will be sold from the 8th of April at various locations throughout the city. Picknick, Venour, Level, Daily Rush and Shopper.
Time to dust off and polish the analog camera and to get that film out of your fridge. A new date has been set for a nice get together with the Analog Photo Collective.
We’ll be heading for the architectural photogenic Kop van Zuid area in Rotterdam (next to the Erasmus bridge in this photo by Erik Hijweege) on Saturday the 9th of April to shoot some serious film.
I might scout the area prior to the meetup to spot some nice locations and angles. I wonder how light affects the buildings and skyline.
I guess we’ll find out very soon.
The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is in town, so I’m pretty excited. Time has been flying over the last weeks so I guess it’s time for some relaxing by watching some good films.
