S-Magazine iPad app

S-Magazine iPad app

Leica Camera released a new iPad app named S-Magazine, is a new platform for professional photographers to freely publish their latest pictures. The S-Magazine presents current ad campaigns and editorial photo series from international photographers.

Beyond that, the S-Magazine reflects current trends in modern commercial photography – from fashion and beauty to interior design and still lifes. This essential guide for professional photographers and a great source of inspiration for me is available through iTunes. But first I have to get my hands on the next iPad to enjoy these nice publications.

New Glimpse Series coming up

New Glimpse Series coming up

Yeah, finally! New Glimpse Series coming up.

After a short break it’s about time to pick up the pace again and produce some new Lomography Glimpse Series. Hope to post some nice series in the coming weeks.

Are you a creative and interested in participating in this Lomography x Cloud Cuckoo project by shooting some analog photos yourself? Feel free to say hi.

Format Perspective

Format Perspective

Format Perspective is a film by Phil Evans that explores the work, lives and opinions of six European skate photographers. The film showcases the photography of Nils Svensson (Malmo), Stu Robinson (Belfast), Alex Irvine (London), Rich Gilligan (Dublin), Sergej Vutuc (Heilbronn) and Bertrand Trichet (Barcelona/Tokyo), while also giving us an insight into the different approaches used by this diverse line-up of photographers.

Filmed completely on super 8 film, this project gives a behind-the-scenes look at the skating that these guys like to shoot, as well as the resulting photos that emerge from these sessions.

Go check.

Glimpse by Hanke Arkenbout

Glimpse by Hanke Arkenbout

Finally, a new Lomography Glimpse Serie on Cloud Cuckoo. This one was shot by Hanke Arkenbout. Hanke is a graphic designer from Rotterdam. She is a sucker for analog photography and shoots awesome photos. Hanke recently applied to join the Analog Photo Collective but wasn’t able to join our previous meetup but she will be present on the next. A big welcome to Hanke! Besides the APC meetups she also wanted to participate in the Glimpse Series so I hooked her up with the Diana Mini for a week and here it is. Enjoy her Glimpse.

‘First of all, I really like the idea of this Glimpse-Project, any project containing analog film is a great project I think : ). I got this tiny pink Diana camera to do my Glimpse with.

Photo Bliss 17

Photo Bliss 17

Cloud Cuckoo Photo Bliss is a fine selection of inspiring photos found on Tumblr and here and there on the interwebs. Click on the photo to re-direct to the Cloud Cuckoo Tumblr post to reach to the source of the photo.

Here’s the 17th set in the Photo Bliss series. As always, do enjoy!

Vivian Maier

Vivian Maier

Street photography is probably the kind I find most interesting. Mainly because it’s so natural. People acting normal in their own environment. No posing, no set up, just the capture of the moment. Photographer Vivian Maier sure is a master at it.

She is very well known for her black and white New York street photography. I could write stuff about her. How she lived and what kind of cameras she used and so on.

In this case I’ll let the photos speak for her.

Tumblr

Tumblr

Like Flickr, Tumblr is addictive for photography lovers. I’ve been browsing photos on Tumblr for some time now and started the Cloud Cuckoo Tumblr about a month ago.

Tumblr photography is great for some fresh inspiration and new looks on composition and style. I catch myself refreshing my Tumblr Dashboard a couple times a day on the computer and on the go on my Tumblr iPhone app. It just doesn’t get boring. Hook up, select a Tumblr Theme and start sharing your favorite photos too.

Jerry Hsu photography

Jerry Hsu photography

I instantly freaked out when I saw this picture, the cat photo by Jerry Hsu. Because it totally could have been us three rascals at home. Forming this pact swearing to never leave one behind and stick together like glue no matter what!

Anyway, not only is Jerry Hsu an amazing skateboarder. He also seems to shoot some pretty sick photos. He published the book Goodbye for Good and got some nice coverage from all over the globe. Still, the Jerry Hsu cat photo is my favorite one.

Photographs by Laura Taylor

Photographs by Laura Taylor

I recently encountered Laura Taylor somewhere online, a LA based photographer who catches my eye with her work. It’s very pure and very commercial which in this point is a good thing. Her pictures are soft toned vivid and packed with nice lighting angles. I think I spend quite an amount of time viewing her photostream but it certainly was time well spend.

She has a nice portfolio and blog which can be found here. Here Flickr account with even more photos can be found here.

Nam Collective

Nam Collective

Nam is a Japanse graphic collective originally established by graphic designer Takayuki Nakazawa and photographer Hiroshi Manaka. The collective consists of over ten artists from various backgrounds. They are responsible for this fresh approach to photography. It’s very lively and crispy. As they are searching for possibilities in the world of visual arts, and exploring the art based on their theme ”A fantasy in Life” I think I can’t wait for their next project. See the full post for some great images.

Snowboarding photography by Dean Blotto Grey

Snowboarding photography by Dean Blotto Grey

Wow, have a look at the work of Dean Blotto Gray. He is a photographer dedicated to sharing the snowboard experience. For over 290 days each year, for the past 10 years, Gray has been documenting the snowboarding life. In doing so, he has become one of the most inexhaustible photographers snowboarding has yet seen. The photos are of unknown beauty. #winteriscoming

Tilt by Romain Laurant

Tilt by Romain Laurant

French photographer Romain Laurent shot his Tilt series last year. He came up with the idea on a day he felt quite dizzy for a split second. It was like the world was tilted and that he was the only person standing straight. He decided to make a series, to show his feeling to others. Nice work!

New roll, new scans

New roll, new scans

I finally got the chance to scan a new roll of film. Here are some pictures from le Grand Depart and le Prologue of the Tour de France in Rotterdam. Soon I will be adding some pictures from a weekend with the guys in Floreffe, Ardenne, Belgium. And a weekend on the island Texel in the Netherlands. I’m especially excited about the possible outcome of the last one. It’s my first ‘film pushing’ experiment. Can’t wait.

Walking the streets of Paris

Walking the streets of Paris

I recently scanned some film containing pictures from our trip to Paris. Here are some of the results. We also shot some 8mm footage yet these still have to find their way to Japan for some processing. Maybe soon.
