Dudes and Dudettes

We’re on Bali catching waves right now and we’re loving it! We’re at this surfcamp called KIMA surf which is all really well organized and it fully lives up to our expectations. You know, eat, surf, sleep. Very good place, nice people. The whole nine yards I guess.

The first day we had to get used to the waves at the Gado Gado spot. It was quite hard for us starters. But at the second day I already got promoted to the 2 * group. Yeah, right on!

So I went on the third day with some others going way further into the ocean trying to catch green water waves. However, the paddling is soooo hard and the waves are insanely big. I’m lying if I just said it was all fine let’s put it that way.

No it was quite scary at times. Especially when I went for this monster which went pretty good I guess. I was at the very top of the waves when it broke so it had me descending very steep resulting in a nose diving experience (that’s the minor part I didn’t quite do good) followed by a 10-15 second of ‘washing machine’ happening with coral and rocks underneath.

You can tell I was exhausted after getting up and trying to get back into the waves. Imagine a three roll break wave you have to get by before being in the right position again to catch another. One after another pushed me back more and more towards the shore. Wonder how the myalgia will be tomorrow. ‘I need another Massage honey’.

So where was Len? Len was doing the 1 * session which is going better and better for her. Tomorrow is our day off which we’ll spend exploring the neighborhood and catching some (safer) waves near our place to practice more. On Monday I’ll give it another try by pushing myself taming on of the crazy big ass Bali waves. Way more surfing pictures to follow in the coming days so watch the Flickr pool!
