Matt Wisniewski

Matt Wisniewski

Web developer Matt Wisniewski is also a pretty nifty image manipulator. Matt Wisniewski’s photo collages combine vintage and contemporary photography to make beautiful and surreal portraits.

I like looking at his mixed media collages for a couple minutes. Especially his Landscape series. To me it seems that the images are trying to tell stories that doesn’t have to match the idea you might get by looking at the image that is projected. Art of the non resembling kind.

Go see.

Julia Pott

Julia Pott

Julia Pott, part of the collective Treat Studios, is a British illustrator and animator living in Brooklyn. The artists statement notes Julia employs awkward animated characters to act out her inner confusions.

I really like her drawings as I found myself scrolling through her Flickr for a bit longer than I usually do, browsing through someone’s work.

You’ve probably seen her work around somewhere since she have done projects for numerous well known clients such as MTV, Etsy, J. Crew and Bat for Lashes. If not, I’m happy to introduce her work to you.

Bliss

Bliss

Not the Bliss you might expect on this site but this is a very exciting photography project. Hanke Arkenbout asked me to participate in a photography project she initiated called Bliss.

Bliss is a magazine that features photographers from all around the globe with the same sort of feeling in their photos.

Bliss wants to give readers a more personal view at the photographers by interviewing them, giving them the opportunity to tell a bit more about themselves than the basic information. Each in there very own way. And yes…there will be lots of lovely photos!

Journey of Private Moon

Journey of Private Moon

Leonid Tishkov is an artist from Russia and sure knows how to grab my attention with his Private Moon work. Together with photographer Boris Bendikov they started the Private Moon project which is a series of visually stunning photos.

They traveled the world with their Private Moon The Arctic, New Zealand Taiwan and other places which can be seen as the  contemporary version of Pierrot walks around the world with his mobile star which he placed in dark landscapes.

Go see and read more about the journey of Private Moon.

Ron van der Ende

Ron van der Ende

Here’s a post to support a local. Ron van der Ende is a sculptor living in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He is specialized in wall mounted bas-reliefs constructed from found wood. The original color and texture of the wood is utilized to form a gripping and realistic mosaic. The realism is further enhanced by the perspective built into the relief. Ron van der Ende uses his method to conjure up dark industrial and space age imagery.

His work is really mind blowing. Such great detail, so stunning.

Wonder what it looks like? Go see.

Hiroyuki Hamada

Hiroyuki Hamada

Hiroyuki Hamada is a great artist from Tokyo, Japan. He lives in East Hampton, New York and amazes me with his work made of rubbing resins, wax, and pigment into smoothed and sanded layers of plaster.

His work bridges the contrasting conceptions of the industrial and the organic through his minimal yet highly complex process of painting, digging and drilling.

Hamada’s palate choice balances the intricate and mathematical repetition with noninvasive earth tones, that allow the viewer to examine each piece time and time again, perhaps reaching a different end each time. And that’s exactly the hardest part of art. Therefore I love it.

Jeff Depner

Jeff Depner

Jeff Depner is a photographer and painting artist who lives and works in Vancouver, Canada. I would like to highlight his ‘Reconfigured Grid Paintings’. These are geometric abstractions, a formal analysis of the interrelationship between form, colour and space. A significant influence on his highly independent formal language can be found within architecture. Build up by using flat colors.

The lines might draw the center of the attention but his expressive, clearly hand-made painting style with seemingly inadvertent paint drippings, scratches and traces of brush strokes claim the spot.

See some of his Reconfigured Grid Paintings in the full post.

Photodrips by Markus Linnenbrink

Photodrips by Markus Linnenbrink

German-born, Brooklyn based artist Markus Linnenbrink sure knows how to handle color. His work has been featured in tons of exhibitions and is a great source of inspiration for many.

Take the Photodrips for instance made of epoxy resin on wood. A perfect piece of art.

Fun fact. Markus Linnenbrink used to work just only with black and white and greyscale. Good for all he discovered color.

Go see his Photodrips work.

Daniel Ballou Industrial Design

Daniel Ballou Industrial Design

Daniel Ballou is an industrial designer at Dashbot, a design consultancy studio in California. Daniel manages to change everyday items and divert their uses for unusual objects.

We recently bought a new home and this might be a nifty feature for one of our walls. Really liking it.

Green Carpet

Green Carpet

Artist Gaëlle Villedary from Marseille thought of helping the village of Jaujac to celebrate 10 years of Art and Nature Trail. She came up with the idea to green fields and winding village houses over 420 meters in total.

What a very nice way to pay homage to a village. Just perfect. No wonder the Green Carpet project got nominated for the Artaq awards. The photos are taken by photographer David Monjou.

The result?

Patrik Lindell

Patrik Lindell

This photography work by Swedish photographer Patrik Lindell really fascinates me. It’s simply that good. His work is so focused and consistent. The compositions are straight-forward, and he has a keen eye for subtle details, pattern, color and structure.

These are photos from his personal portfolio. But really, also have a look at his commission work.

Vans Vault Spring 2012 by Tait Hawes

Vans Vault Spring 2012 by Tait Hawes

Tait Hawes is responsible for the new Vans Vault look book which is pretty rad. Tait Hawes is an Art Director from Los Angelos who has lots of involvement in various Vans design projects.

The Vans Vault spring summer 2012 look book gives us a glimpse at the coming products. It shows us the new Taka Hayashi models as well as new Vans Vault Era LX designs. All sketched and illustrated in a very nice style.

Alexandra Pacula

Alexandra Pacula

I recently came across the awesome work from artist Alexandra Pacula. Born in Poland and moved to Brooklyn uses a quite cool technique.

Her work investigates a world of visual intoxication; it captures moments of enchantment, which are associated with urban nightlife.  She is fascinated by the ambiance of the city at night and its seductive qualities.  The breathtaking turbulence of speeding vehicles and hasty pedestrians evoke feelings of wonder and disorientation.  The vibrant lights become a magical landscape with enticing opportunities and promises of fulfillment.

Makes you wonder right? Go ahead.

Daniel Frost

Daniel Frost

London based illustrator Daniel Frost has a playful style which I like very much. His work draws inspiration from the magical, weird and wonderful to create strange and playful characters. Daniel Frost has won the Oberon award for his illustrated version of Gulliver’s Travels.

His websites features a lot of his work over the last couple of years. The Kites series are quite remarkable. Not on the site but a true achievement are his t-shirt illustrations for the Norse Projects spring summer 2012 collection which I posted recently.

Haroshi skate art

Haroshi skate art

What to do withall those broken skate decks? You might want to give them to Japanese artist Haroshi because he creates truly stunning art by solely using these skateboard decks.

HUF and DLX invited Haroshi to set up an art show related to skateboarding. Haroshi responded with amazing pieces representing stories behind some of his favorite skaters.

His creations are born through styles such as wooden mosaic, dots, and pixels; where each element, either cut out in different shapes or kept in their original form, are connected in different styles, and shaven into the form of the final art piece.

See his work and a video in the full post.
